Guest Artists
Guest Artists offer courses in our Studio, and also exhibit in the Gallery.
Joyce Burkholder – Adventure Art
Joyce Burkholder has been a full-time professional artist for 40 years. She began her career as a textile artist in 1970, and in 1980 started painting, first on silk, and has since evolved to include watercolours, oils and acrylics
Her prize-winning mystical landscapes of local Algonquin scenery. Joyce’s skilled use of glazing with many layers of thin, slightly transparent paint produce the subtle and sometimes dramatic lighting effects on canvas she is so well known for.
Marilyn York – Glass Art
Marilyn has been creating her own designs in traditional stained glass for 8 years and is now sharing her wonderful artistic talent with others through Glass Art workshops. Marilyn’s creativity is greatly influenced by living several years on a lake in west Quebec surrounded by nature.
Using vibrant colour and clear textured stained glass the students were inspired to create beautiful images inside old windows. Whether it be modern, fantasy like or realistic in design, students built beautiful imagery as is shown here.
Students began by creating a scaled pattern for the design of their making and were lead through the process of cutting, grinding and placing the glass, building their creation.
Placing the resulting art work in the sunlight, colours dance throughout the space.
